  • Tatkal advance in Indian Railways reduced to 2 days

So, Finally Mamta Banerjee has made a critical change in Railway Booking for genuine need of common persons. THE railways have reduced the advance reservations period (ARP) under the Tatkal ticket booking scheme from five to two days.
The change will be applicable for any train journey commencing with effect from August 1, 2009. The move is part of a proposal announced by Union railway minister Mamata Banerjee while presenting the Rail Budget 2009-10 on July 3, 2009.The decision, part of Ms Banerjee’s aam admi touch, is based on popular demand and aims to secure confirmed reservation to all in genuine need of rail bookings at the eleventh hour.
Following the decision, the railways will continue to offer reservation under the Tatkal Scheme according to the earlier ARP of five days till July 26, 2009.
For journeys commencing August 1, the ARP will be two days. From July 27 onwards, the ARP will gradually be reduced to four days, three days for journey on July 28 and two days for journeys on July 29, July 30 and July 31.
The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), under the ministry of railways, has been instructed to make necessary changes in the software for this purpose. All Zonal Railways and the Railway Board have also been sent the necessary intimation.
Tatkal ticket booking facility was introduced for the benefit of passengers who have to plan their journey at the last minute and cannot secure reserved accommodation.
Railways provide Tatkal facility on payment of premium charges on ‘first come, first served’ basis but everybody knows it was not used genuinely hence the change is made for genuine people reservations.

  1. Indian Railways should be headed by a competent Rail Minister whose objective should be to develop the national grid judiciously.

Instead we have ministers whose main objective is to support the central government and develop their own territories to gain popularity and reputation for their foothold in the future elections.

This only puts the promised projects on hold and also does not allow the national interest to be served.
